Royal Academy On-Line Finalist!

A painting by seventeen year old, fine-art student Rebecca Smith from Chesham Grammar School, was one of only 45 works eventually chosen by the curators of the Royal Academy A-Level Summer exhibition on-line. The judging panel which included the Royal Academician Grayson Perry were faced with 1,450 submissions from courses all over the country. Rebecca’s painting entitled ‘the caretaker’ will feature on the Royal Academy website with fellow CGS student Harriet Stone being shortlisted. Both these student artists will be showing work at the annual  Exhibition at the school on Saturday 30th June from 12-4pm. A-Level art and photography created by the students over the past year will be on show where sales of postcards, fridge magnets and revenue from a prize draw will go towards the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity. Head of Art & Photography Chris Biddle said, ‘The standard of work this year was exceptional and really highlights the potential, skills and imagination of the students. Anyone interested in the current state of art at schools should come along and support a worthy cause.’
